Odd And Even Numbers

Even Numbers

The numbers ending with 0,2,4,6,8 are even numbers.  As the numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, ..... make perfect pairs when we group them they are called as even numbers.

For example if we have 6 apples and we make pairs as shown below:

We find that they make perfect pairs. Hence 6 is an even number.

For example 34, 78, 56 are all even numbers.

Odd Numbers

The numbers ending with 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 are odd numbers. As the numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, ..... do not make perfect pairs when we group them they are called as odd numbers.

For example if we have 7 apples and we make pairs as shown below:

 

We find that one apple is left alone. or we can say that 7 apples do not make perfect pairs. Hence 7 is an odd number.
